The lecture today was about "Text & Image" by Marta Altes. It was very informative and super adorable, she broke each category of text & image relationship into "Love Stories" with great illustrations to match each. There was the "Opposites Attract" love story when the words aren't saying what the images are. And the "I could live with you, but I don't want to" love story when the words aren't necessary but help to inform the reader of other things. It was quite amusing and got me thinking about how my text was working in the story... in the end I think a lot of it will change. Text for a picture book is nothing like writing a story... at all.
Discussions were a little more difficult today, It seemed that the instructor I worked with today didn't understand the underlying theme of my book but took something rather different from it. So now I have to figure out how to address a concept I hadn't even considered up until this point. She also felt that we didn't get to know Clarence well enough to understand why he wants to leave or to really be rooting for him on his journey. Overall it was a bit of a frustrating day conceptually but artistically as far as drawing goes I accomplished quite a lot. I have each page at least roughly sketched out at A4 size with only the title page and end papers to figure out tomorrow. It was a very productive day.
